Hands-on teaching and knowledge Sharing time with the students

Edify School educational tours provide valuable educational opportunities away from the classroom, textbooks and other tools which are used normally in school. Students on Educational Tours have the opportunity to learn while having fun and that too in a more informal environment. During Educational Tours, the facilitators have a chance to have hands-on teaching and knowledge sharing time with the students, for example an outing to a science center or historical museum where the students are excited to learn about things from these new sights.

It is an ideal situation where students and teachers can bond outside the classroom and where new educational environments and experiences are possible. Students have the opportunity to observe many things that are not available at school, including exotic wildlife, rare plants and maybe even the stars if the Educational Tours is to a planetarium. The Educational Tours are discussed beforehand because it allows students to know what they will experience during their time away from school.

Getting away from the everyday atmosphere of the classroom gives students an opportunity to spend time with each other in a new environment. They are able to connect on more of a personal level without the structure of the normal school day. Students are able to spend much of the educational tour days in small groups, observing, chatting and learning about each other. Assessment is the gathering and analysis of information about student performance. It identifies what students know, understand, can do and feel at different stages in the learning process.

The 3C describes the taught curriculum as the written curriculum in action. Using the written curriculum, and in collaboration with colleagues and students, the teacher generates questions which guide structured inquiry and instruction.
These questions address the eight key concepts which help lead to productive lines of inquiry.
Assessment focuses on the quality of student learning during the process of inquiry and instruction and on the quality of the products of that learning.

Assessment is, therefore, integral to the taught curriculum. It is the means by which we analyze student learning and the effectiveness of our teaching and acts as a foundation on which to base our future planning and practice. It is central to our goal of guiding the student, from novice to expert, through the learning process.

The 3Cs

Character:

Confidence, vivacity and cheerfulness are the most important traits within and can be developed by Edify schools by being generous with praise and making the child responsible towards animals and plants, play active games, watch cartoons, listen to music and dance. The rules of games train children to control their behavior and encourage the development of qualities such as patience Purposefulness, observation, reasoning and logic.
Under the school’s guidance the children learn to be independent, patient and decisive where the children are taught to reach their goals by dividing difficult tasks into several smaller steps.

Competence:

Edify schools develop these qualities by having a student centered learning environment i.e.by giving them responsibilities, opportunities to explore the society, holding field trips, journaling, preparing group and independent projects and dramas. Sports and physical education enables the children to self regulate their emotions and de-stress to learn about personal rights and honoring their own perceptions and increasing positive self talk, goal setting and responsibilities.

Content:

Knowledge gained without implementation has no standing hence the knowledge gained by the child is practiced in his/her day to day activities. The schools follow the CBSE syllabus which can be integrated with the International Baccalaureate IB PYP Primary Years Programmes from Kindergarten to Grade V. The uniqueness of our schools largely lies in this blended approach of offering the best of Indian content using the best of the International Methodologies. The MDN Edify Schools follow the internationally approved convention of a 12:1 student teacher ratio to optimize the learning process.

Regular field trips are organized based on our 3C Curriculum to help children understand the Inquiry Module in progress. Throughout the learning process, both the students and teachers are actively involved in assessing the student’s progress. Students regularly assess their own work and reflect on their own learning process. Teachers support the students in assessing their own work by providing assessment criteria’s. Students go through all the assessment steps through the Pre-Assessment, Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment.
