Methodology of learning at edify

The pedagogical practice is the life of a classroom and retains student interest in the environment and learning process.

Inquiry, as the leading pedagogical approach in the classroom, is recognized as allowing students to be actively involved in their own learning and to take responsibility for that learning. Inquiry allows each student’s understanding of the world to develop in a manner and at a rate that is unique to that student. It is recognized that there is a role for drill and practice in the classroom. Yet it is felt that teaching to the fullest extent possible about central ideas, that are concept based, leads to the most substantial and enduring learning.

An amalgamation of:

  • Indian Ancient Gurukul approach of practical and application based learning (Transdiciplinary)
  • Kath Murdoch – Inquiry Cycle to encourage student curiosity, questioning and research
  • Howard Garner – Multiple Intelligence development to facilitate learning and feedback using customized child friendly strategies from Jigsaw, Musicals, Think Pair and Share, Flow Charts, Audio/Video Resources/ Using Manipulatives, Models etc.,

Edify : Routines & Recreation at the Residential Wing

Life in the Residence

The Residential Wing at Edify is one that bustles with life and energy. The school is home to many students from diverse cultures, and it is this diversity is what makes life at the residence a unique experience for the boarders, who thrive in a close-knit community of friends and mentor-facilitators.

Routines & Recreation at the Residential Wing at EDIFY

The morning jog and the evening study are perhaps one of the most distinctive hallmarks of life in a residential school. In EDIFY these routines have been reinvented and infused with meaning and purpose. The morning jog is a time to get off to a fresh start, to rejuvenate and reorient our students to face a new day. Mealtimes at EDIFY are a time for bonding and friendship, and catching up with peers. The evening assembly has been made special by a meditation session and chanting of the OM that our students find both calming and relaxing. The session is a much needed pause in an otherwise busy day.

DSC_0053.JPG

Post-dinner our students typically unwind in the recreation area in the club room, choosing from games such as billiards, table-tennis, foosball and indoor games such as darts, carroms, chess and other board games. They are also provided with access to the cyber lab to meet their internet needs and connect to the online world. TV-time as well as reading from the wide selection of books housed in the hostel library are also immensely popular with our residential students.

Guided Study

One of the most enriching aspects of life in the residence is the evening study time in which students have guided study sessions under the able instruction of our experienced residential teachers, who make every effort to give each child individual attention and help them work on areas they may find challenging. Our students make the best use of these study hours and use them to propel themselves towards their academic goals.

Experiences & Events

With an extensive line-up of activities and events, no two days in the residence are alike.

Besides regular outings for lunches and films, our students are taken for adventure camps which offer various adventure activities, such as trekking, zip-lining, repelling, in addition to confidence & team-building activities.

Our boarders also enjoy a year-round series of workshops on ‘Creative and Critical Thinking’. The sessions conducted are on a host of topics such as short story writing, improvisational theatre, image and film analysis, philosophical thought experiments, alternative poetry, creating and illustrating flipbooks, origami and craft. Personality Development Workshops are also conducted from time to time.

Our students are also challenged to grow their talents and abilities through intra-group events and competitions these include sporting events like football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, cross country and athletics. Other events that are organized include fiercely contested competitions for Mad Ads, Extempore and Antakshari. As a home away from home, the residence also celebrates national and regional festivals with great gusto and festive spirit. Regular boarders-meets, parent visits and outings also add color and meaning to the life at the residence.

Character:

Confidence, vivacity and cheerfulness are the most important traits within and can be developed by Edify schools by being generous with praise and making the child responsible towards animals and plants, play active games, watch cartoons, listen to music and dance. The rules of games train children to control their behavior and encourage the development of qualities such as patience Purposefulness, observation, reasoning and logic.

Under the school’s guidance the children learn to be independent, patient and decisive where the children are taught to reach their goals by dividing difficult tasks into several smaller steps.

Competence:

Edify schools develop these qualities by having a student centered learning environment i.e.by giving them responsibilities, opportunities to explore the society, holding field trips, journaling, preparing group and independent projects and dramas. Sports and physical education enables the children to self regulate their emotions and de-stress to learn about personal rights and honoring their own perceptions and increasing positive self talk, goal setting and responsibilities.

Content:

The rich inquiry based curriculum is a significant and relevant subject matter acquired for the real life skills and taught through the following subjects, Languages, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social science Visual Arts, Music and Drama, Environment Education, Physical, Social and Personal Education.
